I'm Riding 545 miles to help end AIDS

From June 1-7, 2008, I'm bicycling through California on a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS. And I do mean a world of difference. The people that are affected by this disease include not only those infected, but those who care about, and for, them. AIDS has become manageable but not cured, and there are thousands of our friends and neighbors who can't afford the treatments.

Some say the government should do more. Not me. I say that I should do more. I do this because I can, and because I care, and because I will do almost anything to help people with AIDS obtain medication and assistance. And I'm not alone. There are 3000 of us that either ride or support this event, and that number includes a huge contingent of Positive Pedalers - folks who are afflicted and are fighting anyway to help others.

I'm asking you to help me. I'll pedal the miles if you'll sponsor me. Please give as much as you can ... you can even spread payments out over 10 months, and I humbly suggest you do just that ... $25 per month on your credit card will hardly be noticed and it will go a long way toward finding a cure and helping those in need right now. Please use the link to the right to get started or Click Right Here!

Help me support the HIV/AIDS-related services of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Thank you,
Don

I'm also riding for the LA Gay & Lesbian Center, so if you would rather donate to them on my behalf, please visit my Rider 5005 home page.

Messages of Support for Don

Liam Broderick (5/30/08 1:54PM): Hey Don!

I hope you have a great ride!!! Raise a lot of money! Happy Ride!!! I hope you win the Tour de France!

Sincerely, Liam

Susan DeHerrera (4/11/08 4:22PM): Don, I have no doubt you will accomplish your goal not only to complete the ride but also your committed goal to help in any way possible. I will keep you in my prayers for a safe journey. Pedal on my friend...

Carol Stahlberg (3/23/08 6:01PM): Wow Don, you ROCK!!! What will the world of application development do without you during this ride?! Not to worry, we will survive. Plus, I'll make sure to double up on the starbucks that week, so corporate america doesn't suffer. So, I hope the bike assembly was successful and you enjoyed a spectacular training ride this weekend. Seriously, I wish you luck in your training and the ride, am proud of what you are doing, and am fortunate to have you as a friend.

Good luck!!!

Annette (3/14/08 9:25PM): Hi Don, I'm Annette, rider 1260 from San Francisco. We haven't met but I wanted to say thank you for participating this year. I ride for my brother, Chris, who passed away from AIDS, so I appreciate all the hard work you are doing as well to help put an end to HIV/AIDS. I can hardly wait until all 2500 of us roll into LA. Ride strong and good luck. Annette

Tammy Abad (3/06/08 7:26PM): I think it is really cool that you are doing this! I promise I will make a donation before you go. So does this mean we have to lay off the sushi?

San Francisco AIDS Foundation
Committed to ending the pandemic and human suffering caused by HIV, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation develops innovative solutions, combining scientific evidence with community experience to fight HIV/AIDS and promote health. Established in 1982, the Foundation provides direct services to thousands of people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS and supplies information to thousands more about HIV prevention and treatment through programs that include the California AIDS Hotline (800-367-AIDS). The Foundation promotes HIV awareness in the community and advocates for sound HIV/AIDS policies at all levels of government.

Colorado AIDS Project
Colorado AIDS Project (CAP) was founded in 1983 as the first community-wide response to the HIV/AIDS crisis that was devastating the Denver metro area. Today, CAP continues as the largest community based organization responding to the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis in Colorado by offering vital services through the CAP Wellness Resource Center (WRC), Housing Services Center (HSC), and the Prevention and Education Center (PEC). Since the organization's inception in 1983 CAP has served 9,000 HIV positive people, and grown into an agency with an annual budget of $4.2 million, an executive director, a six-member executive staff, 38 full-time employees, and a stronghold of 150 active volunteers.
