I'm Riding to End AIDSThat's right. I had sooo much fun on the 2007 ride that I'm doing it again! Thanks so much to everyone that made my first trip possible! From June 1-7, 2008, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle 7. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS. LifeCycle 6 was a great, life altering experience (in ways that I didn't expect it to be) and I'm looking forward to surmounting the challenge again. Help me support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Yesterday, we went up to Pittsburg and did a 57 mile ride. It was mostly flat, but there were some headwinds and the scenery was... not so great. Mostly suburban shoot-me-in-the-head-if-I-ever-move-here territory. Today, with much better scenery, was what turned out to be a 90 mile ride. We started out of the Presidio, then went out to China Camp Valley (where there are some lovely rolling hills that are just a scream to ride). After stopping at the Big Rock Deli for lunch 1.0 (where my bestest-ride-buddy-in-the-whole-wide-world and I split a sandwich), we went over Big Rock Hill (similar to White's hill, but slightly steeper), around Nicasio Reservoir and into Point Reyes for Lunch 2.0 (another split sandwich, for 1 whole sandwich each :) Heading south on Highway 1, we turned right at Olema and headed over the Olema Hill (from this direction, this hill is almost easy - it starts out a little steep, but quickly drops to a fairly gradual incline for not too long, and then you get a great descent on the horror that you'd have to ride up from the other direction). Hopping onto the bike trail at the bottom of the hill, we went through the woods to Lagunitas and then over White's (also easy from this direction - hardly a hill at all, really) for a quick stop in Fairfax. From there, it's a very familiar 18 miles or so back to the Presidio. Definitely a win day, excepting for the traffic we hit on the way back to the East Bay. Good god people, what are you all doing in SF today? And why couldn't you take BART like civilized people? I doubt it was because you had to be in the city before BART starts running at 8am, since we hit no traffic going *into* SF. Public transit, people, it'll work for you, too. Luckily, I'm much better at getting myself on a bike and over some major hills! Some recent hills totally knocked out of the ballpark by yours truly: - The Three Bears (in the Berkeley hills). I've done this loop from both directions, and I think one (the one where you do Papa Bear first) is decidedly easier. - Mount Diablo, which has an extra nastly incline in the last 100 yards. You make it all the way up, after miles of hill and then, bam, you hit this gradient that would be intimidating from any angle, but especially ominous since you're already exhausted. So fun ;) - The hill (I forget what it's called) coming out of Lucas Valley. So far, the longest ride I've done this year has been about 70 miles, but I've done more than 90 in a single weekend, and I'm sure I'll be more than ready when the ride comes around next month. Shout-outs to anyone that's donated! This will also be my kick-off on fundraising. I'm hoping if I send out an email once/month and then do other things (like put it in my sig-line, have a party or two) that it'll be easier to raise the $2500 this year... maybe I'll even shoot for something higher... maybe.
