TEAM MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of Team Colorado Aids/LifeCycle is to make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS by providing an opportunity for all team members to raise money and ride in an effort to build community and support and also increase awareness about HIV/AIDS both locally and globally.

 THE RIDE
June 1-7, 2008, the largest group from Colorado ever to participate in an AIDS/LifeCycle (ALC) will bike the 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to benefit the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the HIV/AIDS-related services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. It's an awe inspiring journey and one that everyone should experience in their lifetime, whether by riding, working on one of the Roadie teams, supporting a rider, or just experiencing the ride vicariously through the internet and video. Join Team Colorado in this endeavor and do what you can to end AIDS and restore hope to millions.

THE REASON
AIDS/LifeCycle is designed to advance the shared interests of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and to end the pandemic and human suffering caused by AIDS and address the widespread misconception that HIV/AIDS are no longer a problem -- in fact more people are living with HIV/AIDS today than ever before, which means a much greater need for services.

In the world today a total of 39.5 million people now live with HIV/AIDS. 2.2 million of them are under the age of 15. Every day 12,000 people contract HIV -- that’s 500 every hour and at least half of all new infections are among people under the age of 25. There are approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States and it is estimated that a quarter of them don't even know it. Since the start of the AIDS epidemic, 1.5 million Americans have been infected with HIV and more than 550,000 have died of AIDS.

 THE TEAM
This year, the 25 members of Team Colorado ALC who are registered for the event will join over 2,500 other participants from all over the world. Each cyclist and roadie is required to raise a minimum of $2,500 which will help the beneficiaries continue to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community and also increase awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS among participants, their donors and the general public.

There are 14 members of Team Colorado ALC riding for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and eight riding in support of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. In addition, we have three registered roadies who will help to make the ride happen for everyone.

Colorado Aids Project
Colorado AIDS Project (CAP) was founded in 1983 as the first community-wide response to the HIV/AIDS crisis that was devastating the Denver metro area. Today, CAP continues as the largest community based organization responding to the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis in Colorado by offering vital services through the CAP Wellness Resource Center (WRC), Housing Services Center (HSC), and the Prevention and Education Center (PEC). Since the organization's inception in 1983 CAP has served 9,000 HIV positive people, and grown into an agency with an annual budget of $4.2 million, an executive director, a six-member executive staff, 38 full-time employees, and a stronghold of 150 active volunteers.

LA Gay & Lesbian Center
The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, a leader in battling AIDS and caring for those who are HIV-infected since the earliest days of the pandemic, provides free medical care to those who can't afford treatment and distributed more than $17 million worth of free HIV medications last year. The Center also provides one-on-one and group therapy, mobile testing/counseling, education, advocacy, and prevention services. Each month 700-1,000 people are tested for HIV at the Center.
