Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.

In memory of Mike Gish. In support of his family

I am riding: In sadness for those who have died; in celebration of those who live with HIV; and in anticipation of the day when the difference between being HIV+ and HIV- is meaningless. I am asking once again for your support in bringing us closer to that day.

Two weeks after my high school graduation, the Centers for Disease Control reported on an outbreak of a rare form of skin cancer. That was June 5th, 1981. I was ecstatic to have the whole world at my feet, and just as oblivious as everyone else that the world was on the brink of the AIDS pandemic. My what an interesting journey since then!

27 years later there have been over 22 million deaths from HIV related illnesses. 49 million men, women and children now live with HIV. Many friends and loved ones have died, many more live with the virus and the insidious toll it takes in their lives. Yet, despite the profound effect the pandemic has had in my personal and professional life, despite the massive impact it has had on public health worldwide, I still brim with even greater optimism than this time last year.

Optimism? Why? I'm inspired by lives that are lived fully and fearlessly with HIV. I'm inspired by the brilliance, dedication and amazing discoveries of those who research this disease. And I'm especially inspired by the dedication and sacrifice of those who provide care, food and shelter to the men, women and children in our communities who are directly affected by HIV.  This year, I am inspired by several of my friends and colleagues who have chosen to ride for the first time.   Six of us are supporting each other by pooling our resources, giving ourselves a (quite fun and silly) name, training together and by organizing a dance filled fundraiser to help reach our lofty fundraising goals.

We will eventually discover a way to make HIV a thing of the past.

Please support me, if you are able. Our efforts will bring us closer to the day when no one will need to fear HIV/AIDS.

With great appreciation, Keith

Just to make you happy!! This ride I know is looked upon by Mike and when you ride from S.F to L.A. Mike will be with every pedal rotation! Mike's memory lives in all those who were his friends, cause he always talked about you and the great times he shared.
