I'm Riding to End AIDS

June 22, 2008

Dear Friends and Family:

Two weeks ago I successfully completed the 2008 AIDS/Lifecycle.  As a result, I simply wanted to send a final THANK YOU to all of you who sponsored me and contributed to such a great cause.  Along with your help, the 2,500 riders raised more than $12MM to fight AIDS.

As expected, the ride was a memorable experience – certainly one that will last for the rest of my lifetime.  Although the ride seemed longer than I remembered, I survived and thoroughly enjoyed contributing to a charity of such importance.

Attached are a couple photos from the trip – one of me on a summit in the mountains overlooking Morro Bay California and the second one with my kids celebrating at the closing ceremonies.

Thank you again!

Jeff

Messages of Support for Jeff

Ann-E. (3/24/08 8:44AM): Good luck Jeff!

Ken Neville (3/17/08 5:24PM): Jeff, noticed on your blog that you averaged 15 mph in the Solvang ride. I think you're going to have to pedal a little faster to make it all the way from San Francisco. Eat some carbs and suck it up a little.

Tony and Lynne Mangan (3/05/08 9:53AM): Jeff, Thanks for the opportunity to sponsor you and donate to this very worthy cause. Good luck on the ride, I can see from your blog you are really working hard to get in shape. Best wishes. Tony and Lynne Mangan, Kauaii Hawaii.

Max Trejo (2/21/08 12:12PM): I'm totally impressed Jeff. You have my full support.

Way to go!

Francisco (2/20/08 9:23PM): Way to go Jeff! Fantastic cause and I wish you all the best.

Mark Neroni (2/15/08 6:53AM): Best of luck Jeff. You may inspire me to get back in shape so that I can do something like this in the near future. More importantly, your commitment to helping others provides spiritual inspiration.

Mark

Ricky & Jenna (1/28/08 12:25PM): Way to go, Jeff... we're proud of you!

The Sheehans (1/24/08 4:15PM): Jeff - Old Guys Rule...Way to go!!!

Brooke and Jon (1/24/08 7:08AM): Good luck Jeff. Pilates, huh? That's beyond the scope of our class over here. But we love that our neighbors have a BRAND NEW spinning bike in the garage! Have fun training.

Mark and Regina (1/18/08 2:23PM): Wow Jeff - this is great!

If you ever need a partner I am sure Cody wouldn't mind joining you!

Let us know how it goes - we have wanted to do this too!

Your the Man!!! :)

We miss the Mabry fam in the hood!

Sandy Nahan (1/18/08 6:32AM): Hey Jeff... Great idea...great cause. So glad you are taking the right steps to get prepared. Proper planning prevents poor performance! Gotta love it. Much love, Sandy

Julie Townsend (1/17/08 8:42PM): Go, Jeff! What a great feat you will accomplish for a great cause. Stay safe on your ride.

Dave Lofe (1/17/08 9:42AM): Hey Jeff!

Best of luck with the fund raiser. This is a very good cause especially for the people dying in Africa.

Can't wait to see everyone in June!

Love,

Dave

Jon Whited (1/17/08 7:27AM): Jeff, Good luck with the ride! Jon

Giving Hope to a World of Need: Catholic Relief Services
AIDS is one of the largest and most complex threats to human health the world has ever known. Great stigma compounds already tragic physical consequences. And in the developing world, poverty itself is both a cause and an effect of a pandemic that is devastating the physical, social and economic health of entire regions.

World Health Organization and HIV/AIDS
As the directing and coordinating authority on international health, the World Health Organization (WHO) takes the lead within the UN system in the global health sector response to HIV/AIDS. The HIV/AIDS Department provides evidence-based, technical support to WHO Member States to help them scale up treatment, care and prevention services as well as drugs and diagnostics supply to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable response to HIV/AIDS.

2/9/08: Saturday: (WEEKLY TOTAL) ~47 Miles

Finally a nice day outside -- 70+ degrees F and sunny! Left the house early and got in a good 36.8 miles...  Relatively flat course around Agoura and Westlake so only 1,500ft of vertical climbing...  New compact crankset is working out well... makes the hills a helluva lot easier.  Anyone want to buy a used Dura-Ace crankset? !

I've finalized my training schedule which includes a monthly Century Ride during March, April and May.  Note the following:

3/8/08:   Solvang Century -- 103 miles, 6,500ft of vertical climbing.  "Difficult" rating

4/5/08:   Fallbrook Metric Century -- 65 miles -- 6,500 ft of vertical climbing -- Ouch!  "Extreme" rating

5/10/08: Cruisin the Conejo Century -- 103 miles -- 6,500 vertical climbing, "Difficult" rating.
