Peddling for a Cure for AIDS

Thank you for coming to my AIDS Lifecycle website. As you now, I will ride off to complete the AIDS/Lifecycle 545 mile ride from June 1st to June 7th. The ride itself will take me from:

·         San Francisco to Santa Cruz (Day 1)

·         Santa Cruz to King City (Day 2)

·         King City to Paso Robles (Day 3)

·         Paso Robles to Santa Maria (Day 4)

·         Santa Maria to Lompoc (Day 5)

·         Lompoc to Ventura (Day 6)

·         and finally, the homestretch-- Ventura to Los Angeles (Day 7)

This ride will take me to cities that I am very familiar with (Santa Cruz--GO SLUGS!!!). If you happen to be in/or around one of these cities, it would be a great thing, if you can make it to the camp site (if so, let me know and I can provide you with more information).

I am still asking for your support. Your support means a lot to me and will help ensure that the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center can continue their life-saving work to help those affected by HIV/AIDS.

If you want to send me a message while I am on the ride, you can go to: http://experience.aidslifecycle.org/2008/support/ and leave messages there. I will get the messages as soon as I check into the camp site each day.

Also, I will periodically put voicemail messages on this page and give you all a quick update on the ride for that day. This is just one way I can keep sharing this experience with you.

If you would like to join me in the closing ceremonies on June 7th- I will arrive at the VA in Westwood at 4pm.  For more info, go to: http://www.aidslifecycle.org/ceremonies.html

Once again, THANK YOU for joining me in this journey. You have made it possible for people that are living with HIV/AIDS to obtain the medical care they will need. You are a HERO!

Love,

Jose Ibarra-Virgen

Dave Marez #5407 (5/25/08 11:11PM): Hiya Jose. It wasn't that long ago that I met you riding in Griffith Parks bike path on a Sunday afternoon. I yelled out to you when I seen the Caleb shirt (that you were wearing) "are you doing the ALC ride this year?" and you said "yes." From then on we became friends. I was told that this would happen when you see others on the road. I'm so glad to have met you, share our life stories and laughter. I look forward to getting to know you on the road and during our 7-day journey. Welcome to Team UTAC. Its a pleasure to be team members. You're an inspiration to so many and its important that you know that. Congratulations on your sobriety and all the recent changes you made in your life. Tear down those obstacles homeboy and leap over those hurdles! The sky's the limit man. Take care.

Tu amigo, Lalo

I have trouble hydrating because I'm still not comfortable reaching for my bottle while I'm pedaling.I usually wait until I stop which isn't a good idea. see you soon, Shanwet :)
