I MADE IT!!

Well everyone, it has been a long week and lots of miles, but the ride has come to a completion and I am once again back at home and happy to be here! I would like to say that I rode every mile, but that would not be true. I did have to take the shuttle bus to camp midway on two days due to a inner groin muscle strain caused by my bike seat being at a wrong angle in agrivating the musles on my inner thigh. I did take my bike to the bike tech crew and they made the proper adjustment and things were back to normal. I did however ride 446.25 miles and I am proud of every one of them.

To those of you who have not donated yet, you still can, just hit the Make a donation button below my picture and pull out that credit card and share the love! I still have another 90 days to raise my total before they cap it off. So, get yer credit card out and make that tax deductable donation now!!!

If times are hard and it's just not possible, I completely understand, but you can at least leave a message of support below for all those that come visit my page to see! My blog is also set to receive comments as well! The words of encouragment mean a lot to me, and shows all those that come here, the caliber of people I have in my life that make a difference.

Once again, thanks to all of you and make sure to check out the new feature on this page, Gab Cast! This is a new feature that allowed us to call in messages from the road and you get to hear them here!

The LA Gay and Lesbian center helps more people than any other center in the state...(my facts, not theirs) And, when I lived in LA, I used their services for my annual HIV tests and other things, counseling and good source of referals for new folks that moved to the area. But, the main reason is, I have lost count of the friends that I have lost to HIV/AIDS and I have many friends today that are alive because of the services that the LAGLC provide. Add to that, the research, health services and the different off site centers that help our gay youth and homeless youth. The list could go on, but I think you have an idea. So, with that said, I am once again asking for your assistance in helping me make a difference in someone elses life and build my fundraising to highest amount possible.

I also did something different this year, I rode with a team of guys from different chapters of Great Outdoors, check out our webpage at Team Great Outdoors !! I am proud to have ridden with such a great group of men who love the outdoors and to promote a healther life and discover the world outside the home office!

I am also a member of the Palm Springs chapter of Great Outdoors and their website is: www.greatoutdoors.org/ps I am proud to be able to represent such a great group of people. This group out here is very active and does a lot of local work with facilites out here, from Pipes Canyon Preserve, to Big Morongo Preserve and we also have a 4x4 group that explores the many areas around Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.

Thanks in advance for your support and look for more updates as I sort through the memories and pictures!

Hugs to you all,

Andy

L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center
The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, a leader in battling AIDS and caring for those who are HIV-infected since the earliest days of the pandemic, provides free medical care to those who can't afford treatment and distributed more than $17 million worth of free HIV medications last year. The Center also provides one-on-one and group therapy, mobile testing/counseling, education, advocacy, and prevention services. Each month 700-1,000 people are tested for HIV at the Center.

This is a fledgling group of bike riders who like to go for short scenic rides or long training rides. One week home and back to normal!

Well, it has been a week since the ride came to a close and I am somewhat back to normal. I just need to find some time to sit in the sun and change the tan lines on my legs from my knees to a normal length. I look like i have been standing in mud for a week!

I should be posting a bit more, but for now I am just going to share a couple of photos.

The photo on the left is at the half way point to Los Angeles. It was a beautiful day and we could see for miles from the hill top. It was a chilly ride down though.

The group photo is one of two teams that I trained and rode with. The team here is the "official" team I belong to, Team Great Outdoors! You can see more of our team here: www.aidslifecycle.org/104

Thanks again to all that supported my efforts and fundrainsing. It was a great week and I look foward to participating in this event next year, but not as a rider.

Home at Last!

Hi all,

I got home late Saturday night after a long day of riding from Ventura to Los Angeles. The week was great, a lot of fun memories and new friends. I will be posting a few more notes later, I just wanted to send a note of thanks to all of you who sent notes while I was on the road.

We raised $11.6 million dollars and I think the total may climb a bit higher after this weeks donations are counted and recorded.

Thanks again,

Andy

The anticipation comes to an end!

Well, it's late Thursday night, May 29th and I am still awake just before midnight. I have my bag packed, bike ready and waiting to be loaded in the van in the wee hours of the morning and soon I will be on my way to San Francisco.

It has been an incredible journey this year, training with new people, discovering new places to ride in a flat valley. But above all, the amount of attention and devotion my friends and family have made in donating and making sure I reached my personal goal for the LA Center this year. I am truly humbled.

By the time I reach SF and turn in my last pledges, on my sheets of numbers, I will have gone over $6000!!! It's a personal achievement that I never thought I would see. I owe it all to those who came forward and made the difference.

AIDS Life Cycle has added a new feature for the riders this year. It's called GabCast! This is a cool program that allows me to call in messages from the road and my friends and family can listen from my ride page. So, take a few seconds, and scroll back up a bit. You will see a window that says" Gabcast" There will be a side menu that will have sessions by number. The first one is a test, but for each time that I call, it will create a new session. It may take a few seconds for some computers, and make sure to turn the volume up, but it's a cool way to stay in touch.

Well, its time for me to go to bed, I hope I can sleep.

Thanks again everyone and I hope to see some of you in LA when I ride in next weekend, June 7th!!!

Andy

The Final Week!

I just realized it has been more than two weeks since I updated this blog. Bad biker....bad!

Actually, I took some time off from riding as I pulled a muscle in my upper back and didn't want to chance making it worse by riding with a pulled muscle. So, I took some time off, laid around, ate some cookies, watched a movie or two. Uh..yeah right! I did take some time off, but I worked around the house, I did ride my other bike, the big heavy one with shocks. Just a few short rides here and there, nothing more than 15 miles. But this past weekend, we did our last "official" training ride as a group and popped out a quick 50 mile in a matter of hours, then had a great potluck lunch at Mike Beckmans house. He and Phil Gonder are the training ride leaders out here and they had their hands full with this group this year, but they did a great job and we all are grateful to have them lead us.
The rest of the weekend was spent with friends celebrating the Memorial Day holiday and relaxing. The weather was perfect and despite the cooler than normal temperatures, it was a nice day.
This week is devoted to last minute riding, prepping for the ride, getting all my clothes and things ready and sorted to be packed and loaded on Thursday night. I will be driving out from Palm Springs to San Francisco in a rental van (one way of course) with two bikes and several bags in tow. Now if I could only get my head to stop long enough at night for me to fall asleep. UGH!

If you have been checking out my blog on a regular basis, I have loaded some pictures on my flickr page, take a look at the link here to see some current and former AIDS Life Cycle pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/desertbare/sets/72157603998049950/ I hope the link works if it doesn't let me know and I will fix it or send you the link directly.

This has been a great expreience and I am amazed and humbled by the support and love that has come to me this year, both in the form of donations and letters. I cannot express to all of you how much this means to me. THANK YOU!

Look for a few more updates before I leave this weekend and check my ride page for a new on the road update program they are giving us riders this year. I will be adding that this week!

See you in LA,

Andy

TWO flats in one day, same tire!

This past weekend, I finally had time to ride back to back training rides. Saturdays ride was a route I created for our group out here in Palm Springs. Long, flat, with a few simple climbs, but mostly just miles and time in the saddle. It was a great ride and aside from our longer than normal stops, it was done in a fast time. Sunday however, trying to get back on the bike wasn't too difficult, it was waking me up. UGH.. I am not a morning person. So, I get up get ready and make it in time to meet up with everyone, study the route sheet and listen to the safety speech. We all head out, great weather, perfect riding day, no traffic, clean roads. We get to mile 20 something at a Starbukies and I notice my tire is very low. Slow leak..this happened on Sat too. So, we do an informal tire changing clinic. It goes well, tube goes in, new CO2 pump works like a dream. We head out.....7 mile later, same tire, goes low... so we take out pump put in air and head out. Maybe 1 mile and I am flat as paper. UGH... no more tubes, and I am 26 miles from home. I make the call, get Tim on the phone, give him directions where to find me and i send the rest of the gang on their way. So much for two long rides, but I did get out on my bike.

So, now i have to replace a tire and tubes and co2, but I am feeling good, legs are bit sore, but OK to walk. I must learn to check my tires better on this new bike. I guess I didn't look as close as I should have. road bike tires are thinner and more suseptable to small things and go flat faster.

This weekend, more riding, hot weather and hopefully flat free! total miles for last weekend, 87 miles in two days. Not much, but still good!

11:18 PM

time to ride

Just a quick entry, last weekend was our Century, but I skiiped out at 52 miles to attend the Stage Coach Country Music Festival. It was a great time, I did feel a bit guilty leaving a training ride at lunch, but we had three day tickets and the Judds were performing that night, not to mention Dwight Yokum and some other great bands, like Red Steagal and Riders in the Sky. WOW...what a great day!

But, with all treats comes the consequence!

It seems all the dirt, dust and grass pollen tooks its toll on my lungs and I got a littel chest congestion that knocked me down for a couple days and I lost my voice. ( like that is a crime?)

So, after a couple of days off the bike, I got back on today and took a 26 mile spin across the cities. Not too difficult, just hot! At one traffic light, the bank thermometer read 98 degrees at 3:45 pm! YIKES! But, I kept on going, made a quick stop at Tooties Texas BBQ to say Hello to Willard and Steve. They helped with fundraising by donating some gift certificates to our fundraising BBQ.

After Tooties it was ride home, and clean up and meet Tim for a nice dinner. Good day, quick ride and feeling good!

12:13 PM

why I ride

I don't have AIDS, and how managed to get through the 80's without getting infected when all my friends were dying around me? I will never know but choose not to question.

The same week I came out to my family, the Los Angeles Herald headline read "AIDS Now #1 health crisis!" I was 17 years old and discovering that I was gay and moving into a world of disease, fear, misunderstood emotion and love. I had no idea what being "gay" meant or how I should act? Do I drive a certain car? Is my outfit too gay? Do I swish??

I read articles about spots to watch for on my feet, or listen to my cough and make sure I don't have that strange flu like cold. Paranioa was always there. But that didn't stop me from having sex and trusting that the person I was with wasn't infected. Besides, it was only in New York and San Francisco. I was in Ontario, Ca and going out in Pomona. What a fool I was!!!

Today, I sit here, amazingly still HIV negative and healthy in a long term relationship and doing my best to keep the world educated and safe. I use the word survivor because when I watched my building empty out in a matter of months, I was one of two apartments that survived. When I would read the pages and pages of obituaries and see who passed away over the weekend, I somehow survived that weekend. I was doing the same things all my friends were doing, sleeping with most of the same people too. But somehow, I survived.

So, I ride for many reasons. My friends, my family, neighbors, co-workers, bar buddies and just people I saw and talked to, but never really got to know before they were taken away too soon. AIDS is not over, nor is there a cure or pill that makes it OK to have unsafe sex. The dangers are just as real and the attraction is just as dangerous. Don't think that it won't happen to you because or play partner looks healthy.

Why do I ride now? Because the money is still needed to treat those that need help, the pharmacy that helps those without insurance get their meds, the center provides a place for those that just need a sane safe place to sit, even if its just to be in the lobby and have life moving all around you. Without the money we raise on this ride, NONE of these would be available and someone would have to sit in silence and alone without a trace of hope.

Survior may be a strong word for a non-positive person. I don't mean to discount those that are living with AIDS and HIV. I use survive, because I was there, I remember the days of tears, fears and discrimination. I remember wondering when my day would come and I had to face the reality that I was going to die of this diesease that nobody wanted to deal with or hear about. I survived that fear, sadness and nightmare. But, I celebrate my friends lives each year that I live and get old. I live for them. I ride for them so that nobody has to endure ever again what we went thru in the early days of AIDS.

To those of you who are fortunate enough never to have to experience the dark days, keep riding so that the next generation can read about us in the history books about how a village of people once a year came together to put an end to AIDS and did it!

A fundraiser story with ducks!

This past Saturday, the Palm Springs riders aka Desert Road Runners, held a fundraiser and training ride.

Robeks Juice in Palm Desert was kind enough to offer their store to start and complete a training ride from and generously donated 20% of the days proceeds from 9 am to 3 pm. Brett Klein, Robeks Area Developer-Palm Springs Region, was on hand to help out and he, like us out here, sent out a press release about the fundraiser and 1 year anniversary of opening their store in Palm Desert.

Mike and Phil our TRL's (training ride leaders) planned out a great route for the day, which included a climb up HWY 74 to Mesa View Ln. 3 miles uphill and then a nice downhill and wonderful flat stretch of road with a nice bike lane. But the downhill was short lived when I came upon a dilemma. As I was riding down Portola just before turning on to Hovely, I saw a Momma Duck trying to cross four lanes of traffic with 7 ducklings behind her. As I neared her, she turned and walked back onto the sidewalk and under the bush. I stopped to watch just in case she would try again. The traffic wasn't to heavy, but enough to discourage her several times. I was there about 3 minutes and Phil, another rider caught up with me and I pointed out the Duck and her babies. We decided that we would stop traffic so she could cross. Well, that proved to be a difficult task, because just as she would start to cross, Phil would move out into traffic and she would walk back to the curb. Drivers were not happy with us and some had a few choice words for us. So, I suggested that we wait until she started across and we cross with her.

It was agreed and she finally came out, jumped down the curb and proceeded to cross, well the ducklings had a different idea and just stopped at the curb. So, she turned around, jumped back up on the curb, quacked a few times and jumped back off and proceeded to walk away. Well, the ducklings still didn't jump, so Momma once again turns back walks over to the babies and lets out a few choice quacks of her own jumps up on the curb, turns around and jumps back off., well this time the babies followed suit. By this time, Phil and I were in the road and started walking with her, he stopping traffic on his side and me on mine. Cars, came to slow, some were not happy until they saw what was crossing the road. One Momma Duck and seven ducklings, all walking single file across four lanes of traffic. She jumps up on the curb, the babies follow suit and they all continue down the sidewalk like nothing was wrong.

Phil and I laughing hysterically by this time and was meet in the middle of the road as traffic starts to pass, two cars pull up along Momma and her ducklings and take pictures as she walked them down the sidewalk. We make our way back to the bike lane, laughing the entire time and continue our way on the ride.

The only downfall is, I didn't take my camera out once to take a picture. So you just have to take my word for it.

So, once that was done, we continued on the route, this time several miles behind the rest of the riders. I turned off at Hwy 111 and Washington to head back to Robeks to set up for the fundraiser and be there in case anyone asked what the ride was about and so forth.

As I sat, people came out and asked what the ride was about and made positive comments and dropped a few dollars in the large vase we had on the table. I was amazed at the amount of people that came in while I was sitting there. The Coachella Bike Club came over and said they were there to offer support and all bought something to drink and snack on. It was great to see other cyclist supporting our efforts.

By noon, the other riders came in and we all sat out front and talked and answered questions from customers and offered stories of why we ride, one man walked by and said he was glad to see us there as he lost his brother many years ago and it opened his eyes to his brothers life and the friends he had. It brought tears to everyone.

The day was long and hot, and by the time we left, we had over $100 in the jar and we are waiting to hear what our take is from the sales.

I will be posting pictures later once I edit them and re size. It was a great day and fun to sit and talk and educate young people about why this ride takes place.

Thanks to all that came in and bought smoothies and thanks to the guys at Robeks for being such wonderful people.

Day of the Ride! April 19 2008!

This past weekend, I made the trek in Los Angeles to participate in an annual event for AIDS Life Cycle, Day of the Ride. This is one day of training set up to simulate an actual day of the ride complete with water stops, sweep vehicles and lunch!

My adventure began the night before when I decided to book a hotel room instead of driving in from Palm Springs. Well, lets just say, my memory isn't as good as I thought and I ended up staying way the *&%K on the other end of the valley. I also forgot how long it takes to get from one end of North Hollywood to Santa Monica. By the time I figured out how to get there, I was almost 30 min late. But I was still on time as I set my time schedule ahead of what I was supposed to be so I would arrive within a reasonable time. I actually had time to visit and meet up with my Palm Springs group and meet a couple of the members of Team Great Outdoors, which is the team I am riding with this year.

Once I got registered and got the number on my bike, the speeches began about why we are riding and the great efforts we are all making by riding our bikes from SF to LA. Then it was time to get our bikes and line up to ride out. I was thrilled, I actually was leaving with my proper group, only to look down a block later and notice that I needed air in my front tire. So I turned around and went back to the start and got air in my tire. By the time I got back on the road, I could almost count the cyclists on the road. I had a lot of catching up to do.

To make a long day and story short, I will just summarize that the ride itself was challenging, cold and overcast, just like a day of the ride. I ran into long time friends, made some new ones and the best was rekindling an old friendship that I thought had fallen away to time apart and distance.

The actual mileage for me was 79 miles as I rode into the parking lot that I started out in 7 hours earlier. I was never so happy to see an Orange ALC tent.

I had to great opportunity to ride with two of my Team mates and got to know them better and talk about our organization we are riding for and some of the concerns we had about who is supporting the riders and the issue of bringing in an outside organizations name to our group. I am sure it will be a topic of discussion at a later time. But, we were still proud to be representing our group and what we stand for and what we do.

This ride was extremely challenging to me and I had concerns at first, but as I sit here now, rested but still a bot sore. I am becoming more comfortable with the thought of riding my bike seven days in a row now.

On the fundraising part, I am just shy of $4.00 of reaching $4000. I am becoming confident I will be able to reach my goal of $5000. If you are reading this and have not made a donation, its still not too late.

So, it's time to relax, plan my training rides for the week and try to get some more riding in and keep my legs in shape.

Sobriety and Riding

I can't remember the day I woke up sober. It was after a three week binge of drinking and doing a lot of speed. I had called a friend who found AA a year before and after a short call and specific instructions, I began a sober life. My last drink was on a Sunday, April 13, 1991. I cannot tell you what I did on April 14th, so I claim the 15th as my first day of sobriety. That was 17 years ago and it all still feels like it was last week. It's amazing how a specific event can remain in ones memory so clear that we can even hear the sounds of that day. But, as I sit here writing, I am clean, sober and alive. Gratitude is such a small word in the feelings and emotions right now. Had I been told that I would remain sober for this long when I decided to quit drinking, I doubt I would have stayed. I was told that I had to do it "One Day at a Time" and that is what I did.

Now, as I prepare for a ride that will take me from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I look at my life now and the incredible gifts I have as a result of staying sober and learning to live life on lifes terms. It wasn't always an easy thing to do, and there were times when I really wanted to check out and take a drink to make it easier, but I didn't.. That in itself is something that only sobriety can bring and allow to happen, without letting it happen. Make sense?

This is not my first ride and I doubt will be my last. I think the reason I ride this year is not because I lost a friend to AIDS, its because I lost a friend to cancer who wanted to live but just didn't know how to find it within himself to make it happen. The loss of his life and watching him die, reminded me of the dark days in the early 80's and into the 90's of reading page after page of obituaries and wondering who was next and how did I escape the plague? I found a new light for life and respect for the air I breath and love of my family, friends and my partner of 15 years. So, I ride in memory of my friend JT who will be with me on the route, and the wind behind me when I need it. I ride for my friends that died so long ago but are still in my memory today. I ride for my friends today that are living with HIV and struggling still with side affects from medications, strange illness and ones that are not common but the side affects of the drugs make them happen. All this so they don't become a statistic. I ride for many reasons, but mostly because I miss my friends and this disease has to be stopped.

What does this have to do with sobriety and riding? I would not be able to participate in this ride if I were still using and drinking. I would not have the life I do today, the love of a great man who values me, my heart and my life. I would not  have the wisdom to train, the patience to listen and desire to make a difference. I would just be sitting on my couch, or barstool complaining about my life and why isn't anything being done about AIDS and fiding a cure? Sobriety for me has a lot to do with why I ride and for whom I ride!

The longest ride this year!

Sunday I joined our Palm Springs Desert Roadrunners Team as we headed out for a 77 mile training ride. In the beginning there were 11 of us, but as the route would continue, two would turn back to begin setting up for a Pool Party/Fundraiser we would have after the ride, and the rest would continue on to ride in nearly 100 degree heat and eventually cut the route short due to time and heat factors for the riders.

Since I rode to the start line, I left my meter alone to calculate my miles for the day, and as we rode back to Todd's house for the party, I stopped my bike and leaned it up against the wall by the pool just as it read 70 miles exactly! What a great ride and achievement for me. It is by far the longest ride I have done in four years!

The ride itself was a long one, with a nice spin through Palm Springs, into Cathedral City and starting our climb up to Sky Valley from Palm Desert via Washington Avenue. We then made our way over to Thousand Palms Road and for the first time ever, I rode up the hill instead of coasting down it. I was amazed that I was able to ride this and keep a steady 9-11 mph as I climbed. Once we reached Dillon Road and stopped to stretch, drink some water, but also ration it as we didn't have anywhere to stop for the next 20 miles. I noticed I was OK, not hurting and actually ready to ride one. By the time we turned off Dillon Road, it was HOT, the wind and stopped and I was about a half a cup of water away from running out of water. Ken, who is riding this year for the first time, arranged for his partner to meet us on Ave 44 and Golf Center Parkway with cold water. Let me tell you, it was a great site to see and I am not sure some of the other slower riders would have made it to the nearest store as we all rode in on droplets of water.

The rest of the ride was long, but thankfully flat. We did however agree that a food stop was in order as one of the slower riders was on the verge of bonking from heat and hunger. So, we altered the route, found a Subway and we all got something to eat and drink and were able to cool off some in the air conditioned shop. The next stop was Robek's Smoothies at Towne Center and Hwy 111. It was a welcome stop, had a fabulous stuffed pretzel and soon we were off back to Palm Springs. By the time we left Robek's, it was close to 3 pm and we were supposed to have already arrived back at the pool party, so once again, we altered the route and headed straight back to Palm Springs, via Hwy 111. Thankfully the traffic was light and we were able to ride without too much stress. I think its good for the first time ALC riders to get exposure to riding in traffic since we will be riding in it all week long in June. So, the rest of the ride was with cars zipping past us at high speed and making sure we all arrived safe.

Once back at Todd's house, we were greeted to cold soft drinks, and hot tub and cool water pool. But not without a refreshing shower in the club house bathroom. Talk about a welcome treat!

The pool party was a great success, Todd and his partner Vance did a wonderful job with cooking and serving the food and the prize raffle we organized garnered the Team $1720. Not bad for a group of 11 riders from a small town.

As the afternoon slowed down Tim and I bid our goodbyes, and our friends John and Wei thanked the hose, we headed home to relax and plan dinner.

It was a fun day, and I didn't hurt too much.

Look for more fun rides like this to come soon.

No April Showers here

Well, April is here and the weather is finally warming up enough to ride  without bundling up. Now I just need to make time to ride more and spend more time outside. I was gone for a week on a very much anticipated cruise to Mexico with Tim. Seven days at sea, three ports of call in Mexico and LOTS of WALKING!!! So, while I wasn't on my bike for the week, I made up for it by walking everywhere when not on the ship and by walking up and down the stairs on the ship and participating in a 5k walk on the ships deck for Breast Cancer Awareness. I actually lost four pounds.

Now that I am home, its time to get back on the bike and ride. This weekend, April 12-13 are two long rides and I am not sure if I am up for that. But, there is only one way to find out, right? I have been getting out and so far my longest ride has been 56 miles in one day. I did get in 165 miles just before the cruise in four days, so I think I should be OK. The hard part about training out here is we are flat and while there are many roads to choose from, they all go to the same place and to circle back is just as exciting. Oh well, its the time in the saddle that matters right? I will see more when I leave SF and start riding south to LA.

As I sit here, the house is quiet. Tim and I hosted a Fundraising house party for me and it was successful in that 12 people showed up and by the nights end, I increased my fundraising total by another $375 bucks!! I am determined to reach my goal of $5000! So, hit that donat now button and show me the money!

OH....this is off topic for here, but on April 19th, at 10:30 am, we will be on A&E TV show called Sell this House. They came just a few days before Tour de Palm Springs this past February and did a three day shoot of my house as it was filmed for an open house, with hidden cameras, then a pack, remove, paint and put back process, and day three the big reveal of the new house to the first group of open house folks for them to Ohhh and Ahhhh over the grand change. Don't be surprised by the amount of kitchen things I have. I love to cook and my kitchen is small. So it looks like I have more than what is really there. So, again, the date: April 19th Cable show: Sell this House on A&E Time: 10:30 am.

training is hard

Hi again,

It's me, trying to keep track of all the things I do and remember to come here and post.

Training is hard out in the desert...one day it's warm, the next is Tornado winds and sand, then its warm again. What is up with that!

But, depsite my best efforts to find a reason not to ride, this past Sunday, I got up, dressed warm and headed over to Koffi to meet with some riders for a training ride.  I arrived to see one person, and then discovered Phil was inside getting coffee. Long story short, we headed out, Phil somehow managed to find a good hill here in Palm Springs without going up the tram road. It wasn't long, but it went UP...UGH...but I did it. Then we turned around and went down...ahhh....zzooooom. Then the winds found us....first from the left, then we turn and have a great tailwind..21 mph without pedaling. Only to turn and ride back into the wind. But, we did OK.

Next hill....Andreas Canyon! Arrrrrrgh....!!!! This is a short hill, but definately the hardest hill in the city and one that always challenges me to beat it. Well, as I crawled up the hill and was just reaching my breaking point, I found a burst of energy and made it to the top, soaring in at 3 mph. ZOOOoooom! But once again, the downhill was so worth it.

I think I need to ride more hills out here.

Well that's it for now, more later!

PS. I am still working on my Top Ten list....keep watching!
