I'm Riding to End AIDS

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for visiting my rider page. From June 1-7, 2008, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle! It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS. I've committed to training, fundraising ($2500!), and riding 545 miles in June to support HIV/AIDS awareness, education, services, and research.

Did you know?

In the United States...

  • There are approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States. It is estimated that a quarter of them don't know it.
  • Since the start of the AIDS epidemic, 1.5 million Americans have been infected with HIV and more than 550,000 have died of AIDS.
  • At least 40,000 more people in the U.S. are infected each year, with young people, men who have sex with men, and communities of color most heavily affected.
  • At least half of all new infections are among people under the age of 25.

In the World...

  • A total of 39.5 million people now live with HIV/AIDS
  • 2.2 million of them are under the age of 15
  • In 2006, an estimated 4.3 million people were infected with HIV
  • 530,000 were under the age of 15
  • Every day 12,000 people contract HIV -- 500 every hour.
  • In 2006, 2.9 million people died from AIDS, 380,000 of whom were under the age of 15. That's one child dying per minute.

so PLEASE, help me support the cause by giving what you can. (you can click the blue "Make a Donation" button to your right)

Thank you so much for your generosity!

Love,

Katie

Messages of Support for Katie

Adam & Jen (5/06/08 6:22AM): Good luck Katie! Just know your name has been added to the fundraiser list for when Anderson is older, ha ha........ No really - be prepared for boyscout popcorn, little league candy bars, pizza kits, cookie dough tubs, christmas time cheese, crackers & sasauges etc. Isn't the best part of donorship the selfless giving? I feel great right now.

Tracy (4/25/08 4:35PM): I told you I'd be the one to get you $1.00 over your minimum goal! Jokes aside, I'm 'loud and proud' of you. Ha, ha... did you get my lesbian joke? See you tonight!

Marsha (4/25/08 5:31AM): Congrats on giving so much in support of this cause. Every little bit helps on the way to finding a cure for such a devastating disease. Have fun and enjoy the scenery along the way. Wish I was closer so I could massage your weary legs!!!!

Tracy Nguyen (4/22/08 8:45PM): Don't forget to let me know when you hit $2,499.00. I want to be the one that puts you dramatically at your minimum goal! (Just kidding).

CC (4/22/08 9:29AM): Hi Katie,

Just wanted to reach out to you about tent assignment. I think I am going to shoot my cycle buddy a note about us sharing a tent just in case there are any issues w/ us being on separate teams (La vs. SF).

What is your email? I thought it would be good to copy you.

how are you feeling after the ride on Sunday?

Thanks, CC

Jason Holder (4/22/08 8:45AM): Katie, I'm so impressed with your dedication and your kind heart. It's good that you're going south, because I think it's downhill most of the way! Enjoy your training and the ride to L.A.!

Daphne (4/07/08 11:59PM): P.S. have you had your teeth cleaning in the past six months?? You should see my mom while you're in L.A.!!! Her office is on 1134 S. Robertson Blvd, Suite 2. There's a big toothbrush sketched onto the entrance door, and parking in the back for your bike ;) she has a website www.ladigitaldentistry.com if you want to make an appt. XOXOXO

Daphne (4/07/08 11:53PM): Girl you're always surprising me! This is so cool! What in the world gave you the idea?! Actually for the past two years or so I've wanted to do a 'bike from the east to west coast trip' and haven't done it yet, but how you're doing it for a cause is the best! You'll have to tell me how it goes, and if you make it to the end, then maybe you'll be up for my across america bike trip!! donation has been given by my mom's dental office (Dr. Masi - LA Digital Dentistry), consider it your birthday present :P ...and Katie this better not be a con because you're broke.

Shirley (4/04/08 10:29AM): Go, Katie, Go!! Good luck with everything!

Lindsay (4/01/08 6:51PM): Looks like a pretty awesome thing you are doing! I hope everything goes well and that you excede your goal! I hope this little bit will help.

Its been a long time and I hope to catch up soon!

Leigh (4/01/08 7:24AM): Hi Katie! I am so proud of you! I can't wait to see how buff you get. :)
