Just finished AIDSlifecycle!

Thank You all for your donations and support for what was the most amazing week ever spent in a lifetime! I decided to venture out on my mountainbike which was the biggest mistake ever made in the history of mankid. I was warned, educated, even offered  a discount on a new racingbike which was the industry standard for such events. But no. I rebelled. swallowed my pride and rode 8 days on the mountainbike from HELL but it took care of me, built up my quads, my breathing improved and after the finish I was condition like you wouldn't believe!

We collectively raised over 11 million which is an incredible amount for this cause.

I will now be an avid cyclist riding for 2 reasons: personal health and raising money to eventually find a cure for AIDS. It may sound trite for one person do do alone, but the thing I learned which I want to send out is "There is a big group of people working hard for the same result" That group is an amazing and selfless portion of people I feel blessed to know.

If you see me now riding on my bike in San Diego or The OC or LA please waive and say Hello. Chances are you will see me more and more out tring not to run down old ladies and children in crosswalks as I head to our goal each year to find a cure.

XO

Messages of Support for Collin

Daniel Signani (6/26/08 6:44PM): YOU ROCK COLLIN! Simply put-you are amazing!

Keep riding, training and smiling. And when you feel like you can't, look behind you and see everyone you met on the Ride pushing you, encouraging you. You can do it!

Daniel

Bill (Delaney) (6/19/08 10:40AM): Hey Stud!

Just in case you don't remember me, we met watching the Day 3 camp announcements; I have the pic of my brother John around my neck. I just logged in to check out ALC's photos and saw your name in the "new Blog" list.

Anyway - just wanted to say "Hi", and after skimming your blogs I'm glad to hear you will be switching to a road bike :-) See you next year? My partner and I will be Roadies next year (probably rest stop 3).

By the way, your photos don't do you justice. You're even better looking in person ;-)

Bill #1744

john platt (3275) (6/17/08 2:38PM): Thanks for the message, Collin. I happen to know a lot of people who have $ and who love me because of and in spite of myself. Congrats on your ride and fundraising too. See you in 2010 (next year my son graduates from the school where I teach on the Friday of THE RIDE, so can't be in CA).

Love ya!

Brett Schaffter (6/02/08 11:36AM): Collin, I'm so proud of you for stepping out and stepping up to the challenge with your participation in Aids Ride 2008.

You are an inspiration to me for the choices you are making to live an extraordinary life. It would have been so easy to just find a reason not to take on this challenge, and you didn't let anything (including yourself) get in your way!

You have already proven to yourself that there is no obstacle that you can't over come. Your strength is a true gift that you are sharing with others in your life, as they look to you for leadership and support.

Enjoy each moment of your ride; one moment at a time!

Love ya, Brett Schaffter

Carrie (6/02/08 9:38AM): I'm so proud of you! Enjoy the whole experience!!

PS- Shake your love bayyyybeeee! Or rather, bike your love? Naw, that's a stretch! Just have fun! Love you!

Mary Wadsworth (5/29/08 3:33PM): Good luck, Coley! I'm really proud of you for taking on such an intense physical and emotional challenge. Good luck every "pedal" of the way! You are in my heart and thoughts through your entire journey! I am looking forward to hearing your story when it's over. Enjoy this special time. Take care of yourself.

Love you, Mary

Ivan (Puerto Rico) (5/29/08 3:01PM): Baby, it's almost time for you. i feel very proud to be part of your life. Go ahead, I'm sure your will have a successfully life... big Kiss and GOD Bless you!

Jamie (5/28/08 3:14PM): Hey Collin (Coley), Thanks for the note. I read your page and see you are a first timer. First of all there is an In & Out right next to camp in Ventura, so you have to pedal some miles to win the prize, but it's like a steady stream of riders all day long over to it, and loads of fun.

You will have the time of your life on this ride. Just be open and willing to meet new people of all walks, and challenge yourself to push outside of your comfort zone and talk to every person you can. Biking is the easy part, being available to make 3000 new friends... that's tough. :)

I hope I get to meet you. ~Jamie

Scotty Monkey (5/28/08 3:08PM): I'm so excited to finally meet you Collin! I just love your story and strength and look forward to getting to know the guy I've only known through MySpace and the ALC web site. Definitely come try to find me in Monkey Town. Ride safe, ride strong!

Chi Chi (5/25/08 11:21AM): Collin, I am very proud of you. I love and adore you. Best of luck on the ride!!! xoxoxoxox Chi Chi

Rich (5/22/08 1:04PM): Day 1 is right around the corner! I am nervous as I can be, but knowing that I'm not alone makes me feel a little bit better...I'm looking forward to this ride and getting to know everyone (if that is possible!). Let's see who walks first!?! LOL

Russ (5/22/08 1:02PM): Hey Collin! It's almost time!!! I'm very proud of you!

Jeff (5/20/08 5:59PM): Only 10 more days to go, Collin! WHOO-HOO!!!

Thank you for the messages of support, and I look forward to meeting you as well. I'll be eay to find - I'll be the one in bike shorts and a helmet. LOL

And don't worry too much about riding every mile of the event, just ride every mile that you can. I look at it this way; all the hard work of the past few months was to get you TO the event, and participation in the event, in whatever capacity, is the icing on the cake, the reward for all the hard work, fund raising, sweat and tears. When I crashed at mile 13 on Day One on ALC 2, breaking my collar bone and ending my riding for that year, the LAST thing I wanted to do was go home and miss the rest of the event. I may have "only" been a cheerleader for the rest of the week, but it was one of the most memorable and emotional and wonderful weeks of my life.

You're going to have an incredible week, Collin, and I'm glad that I get to share that week with you! xo

Brian Donnelly (#5884) (5/17/08 12:07PM): Thanks for words of support! only my 2nd from a fellow rider! Won't be long now, huh? Keep riding! I hear they've reduced mileage on the first day a lot since I last did the ride (in 1999! ) so at least they ease us into it a little before we all become walking wounded. Trip to the masseuse tent? Hell yes!

Cheers!

Jeff Smith (5/16/08 3:14PM): Congratulations on meeting your fund raising goal! I've been checking in on you from time to time, watching your donation total steadily increase, and am so pleased for you that you've reached that $2,500.

Thanks again for your kind words when you learned that my bike was stolen. I have been borrowing a friend's bike ever since, and have racked up a TON of miles on it, so I'm ready and rearing for the Ride in June.

Best of luck on your final two weeks of training, and I'm looking forward to meeting you in person! --Jeff, rider #1150

Elena Flores (5/15/08 2:33PM): this is so awesome.... koa and I will be wishing you the best.

Carol Ann & Debbie (5/13/08 12:47PM): Collin, Have a great ride.....hope you find that In-n-Out burger!! What your doing is so awesome! xoxo :)

Mary-Beth Baptista (5/10/08 9:27AM): Coley - I think of you often and I am soo happy that you are doing well! I wish you all the best of luck for a safe ride! Cheers! Mary-Beth!

John (#2400) (4/09/08 10:11AM): Hi Collin, Thanks for your message! This is my first ride too. I've never done anything close to this challenging before. The fundraising suprised me too! I just asked, and people gave so generously. I've raised my goal 5 times!!! Raising your goal encourages people to give bigger if they are able. Hope to meet you on the ride.

All the best, John

Mary and Bill Wadsworth (4/07/08 6:24PM): Good for you, Coley! Good luck with everything, you'll do great. We'll be thinking of you and Jamie during this special journey.

P.S. You must post photos off the bike shorts!!!

Brett (Rider #6030) (4/07/08 8:14AM): hi Collin. Thanks for your nice note. Keep up the training and I'll see you in June.

~Jeff & Michael

Amy Sloan (West) (4/01/08 1:08PM): Maddy sent me your link and I just wanted to say good luck with your donations and ride. I'm confident that you will accomplish both goals and have an extraordinary journey in the process. Be safe and remember, no shortcuts!!! ;)

Danielle K (3/12/08 7:04PM): Collin, I am so proud of you! What an amazing experience, and accomplishment. I know you can do it!!!

Joel Wheeler (3/10/08 7:21PM): : ) Welcome! Your story is very touching. Part of what makes this Ride special is that it's not uncommon to suddenly know something very intimate about someone you've just met. People connect very quickly and deeply in a way that underscores shared experience and it's pretty magical.

I encourage you to take part in organized ALC training rides in your area; they're really great, especially when preparing for the first time.

Also: know that there IS an In-n-Out right by the final campsite. ALC riders descend on it like the fury of heaven itself: I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the employees refer to our arrival as 'Black Friday.' And trust me: that DoubleDouble NEVER tasted better!

Good luck!

Cousin Kellie (3/10/08 4:38AM): Go, Coley, go!! I know Jamie is proud of you, and will be with you every step of the way, and we'll be cheering you on. You can do it!!! Love you!

Brian & Tiffany Gross (3/09/08 7:56AM): You will always have family behind you pushing you towards your goal. We know you can do it; and will be there with you in spirit the entire way. Enjoy the ride!! Love B & T

Sharon Tentilucci (3/08/08 8:26PM): This is wonderful! My mom died of pancreatic cancer about the same time as James. I understand how important it is for you to do this and think it is wonderful! Pedal on!!!

Gina Benson (3/08/08 5:06PM): What a beautiful tribute to your brother and to the cause. You're already a winner! Enjoy the journey.

Kristi (3/08/08 8:42AM): You are amazing! I support you 100%! Can't wait to hear all the stories you'll have to share!

Carol O'Brien (3/07/08 7:53PM):  Jamie would be so proud of you for making this committment, and so are we! Good luck, and good pedaling!! love to you, Mom and Dad

Cousin Shannon (3/07/08 7:32PM): What a great tribute to all in need and for Jamie. Love you.

Emily (3/07/08 1:58PM): Wishing you the best! I love your message.

Help! Im trading in my Mountainbike for a Racing Bike!

Hello all! After riding the event in my mountain bike I have "easily" decided to trade in my mountain bike for a proper Racing or Road bike. Do you know if there is or will be a website thru AIDSlifecycle for riders looking to sell their Racing/Road bikes? I heard there is or will be but need more information. I will be doing the event next year as well ALC 2009. Thank you all for everything- It was an amazing week for so many reasons!!!

Peace

Reached the $2000 mark on fundraising!!!

Thank You all for your support and help with donations! With your help we have reached the $2000 mark and exceeded it! I will be setting up another fundraiser to help reach my minimum required goal of $2500 so I remain eligible to ride in June. Because this could be a rainy month, I am foregoing a shirtless carwash since most places are limited for time and space and most likely going to host a BBQ/Pool party at my condo(weather permitting). All-U-Can-Eat poolside on a hopefully Sunday afternoon with yours truly at the spatula! Again, Thank You all for your support and I look forward to seeing you all this month!

April Fools Ride

...so it's like this....It started to rain...I got on my bike to ride this morning...Popped my rear tire, was sitting on the corner at an intersection and a car ran by me spraying water all over my front, I drove to Chevron to check my tire and the air hose station was broken, went to a Union station and there was NO airhose, decided to ride home early and had my new bike seat detached from the post. Just when you think this can not all be happening....I have a yellow Mini Cooper drive up beside me, a gal steps out I have never seen before, asks if I need help as she also saw me at the Union station, turns out she is also on the Aidslifecycle ride. Long story short (or maybe not) took me out to lunch and I have great new connection on the ride. Ya never can tell...(Not an April Fool's joke)

Peace all and Thank You all so much for your support and donations! Im nearly 70% there of goal! (Only appx $900 left to raise!!!) I will be hosting another fundraiser end of April. Details forthcoming..

Training update

Hi all

Weather has been great and have officially been training on the bike! The saying goes "It's just like riding a Bike- you never forget"- Well let me be the first to say, your body sure as heck does forget! It was awkward at first but is an amazing and fun sport. I will keep pics of this and also the event so you can all see how kewl this actually is. Next is wearing the "cycling shorts" which I am not looking forward to but if I can wear the tiny Dolphin running shorts while I was in track and field, I can hack this.

Thanks again!
