The Houston-Area ALC Training Series provides friendly, no-drop training rides to help prepare you for AIDS/LifeCycle.
Ride hard and climb high on the Chappell Hill Expedition! We’ll start in the little town of Chappell Hill and ride through Washington County. Primary route is 62 miles with 3,180 ft of climbing! Continue on down the hill and climb back and you’ll ride 77 miles and climb 3,905 ft! This is about the best simulation of an ALC ride that you can get in this part of Texas! The route has 4 rest stops: Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park, Independence, Brenham, and Chappell Hill. Riders who wish to quit riding at 62 miles can return to start on the way down the hill from to the last rest stop, which is just 1/2 mile from ride start. Roads are mostly FM roads and county roads with little traffic. About 1.6 miles of the route are on TX 105, which is a busy highway with wide shoulders. Route is full of rolling hills, some with steep climbs, including the last 7-mile climb into Chappell Hill. There is 1 mile of unpaved road on the route. Riders should bring plenty of water (at least 2 water bottles or a hydration pack).
