Welcome to the Saturday East Bay training series! This series is designed as slow ramp-up starter series for new riders but welcomes riders at all skill levels, including those who haven’t ridden a bike in years and those who may be recovering from injuries.
This week we head to Mt. Diablo and climb from the North Gate and descend to the South Gate. Time permitting, there is the option to summit the mountain. No doubt about it, this is a challenging ride and is far more challenging than any single day that you will experience on AIDS/LifeCycle this June. Our ride passes through Moraga, Lafayette, and on to Pleasant Hill for our first rest stop at mile 17. From there we head to Mt. Diablo and climb, climb, climb. There is water available at the Ranger Station at mile 27, but ALL RIDERS MUST CARRY FOOD. From the Ranger Station it’s another 4.5 miles up to the summit, or you could shave 9 miles off of our 67 mile route and head down to the South Gate, skipping the summit, and head right to our well deserved lunch stop in Blackhawk at mile 47. From Blackhawk we take Camino Tassajara before coming back up through our familiar haunts of Danville, Alamo, and Lafayette on our way back to Orinda.
Join us, this is the last official Wildcat ride for the season.
The route can be found at: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42631021/
All skill levels are welcome! If any ride is too much, we will work with you on making sure you have alternatives to the entire route. You will have a great bike ride. That’s a win!
