Houston-Area ALC Training Series

Ride hard and climb high on our final ride of the ALC 2023 Training Season! We’ll start in the little town of Chappell Hill and ride through Washington County. Primary route is 75 miles with 3,740 ft of climbing! This is about the best simulation of an ALC ride that you can get in this part of Texas! The route has 4 rest stops: Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park, Independence, Brenham, and Chappell Hill. Riders who wish to quit riding at 60 miles can return to start on the way to the last rest stop, which is just 1/2 mile from ride start. Road are mostly FM roads and county roads with little traffic. About 1.6 miles of the route are on TX 105, which is a busy highway with wide shoulders. Route is full of rolling hills, some with steep climbs, including the last 7-mile climb into Chappell Hill. Riders should bring plenty of water (at least 3 water bottles or a hydration pack) and should be acclimated to the heat. Afternoon temperature can reach 95 F or more at this time of year.

All skill levels are welcome! If any ride is too much, we will work with you on making sure you have alternatives to the entire route. You will have a great bike ride. That’s a win! And remember, safety is critical. We will be following all bicycling laws and regulations as well as COVID regulations!
