Join the Chain Gang for a special Skills Clinic to learn how to climb, descend and build your cycling fitness with some interval training. We will meet at our usual spot at Crystal Springs Lower Picnic Area and start with a short introduction to gears, brakes, and the basics of tackling hills on your bike. To help you build your cycling fitness, we will also demonstrate some speed drills and show you how plan interval sets. Then we take our new skills out on the road with several loops up and down two of the shorter hills in the park to practice different climbing and descending techniques, with a flat loop in between and some sprint intervals sprinkled in. All skill levels are welcome – this is a great clinic for learning and practicing the basics and get comfortable with the ups and downs of hills.
Driving Direction: We will meet at the Lower Crystal Springs Picnic Area in Griffith Park – from Crystal Springs Drive, go down the hill past the Ranger Station, and keep to the right at the bottom of the hill at the bathroom building. Continue along the far side of the baseball field until the road turns to the left away from the field. We will be in that part of the parking lot, look for TRL’s in bright orange vests!
All skill levels are welcome! If any ride is too much, we will work with you on making sure you have alternatives to the entire route. You will have a great bike ride. That’s a win! And remember, safety is critical. We will be following all bicycling laws and regulations as well as COVID regulations.!
