Chain Gang Climbs Every Mountain
37 Miles, Long and steep hills
Meet: 8:00 AM
Ride-Out: 8:30 AM
Rain Cancels
The 6 week countdown to ALC has started, so Chain Gang will get you ready with a special ALC Skills and Tips clinic followed by a hilly “Climb Every Mountain” adventure through Griffith Park!
Join us at Merry Go Round Lot 3 for a special ALC Skills and Drills clinic to teach, demonstrate and then PRACTICE all the important things you need to know for the ride: how to pass safely; how to walk with your bike if you need to cross-train for a bit; how to navigate intersections and turn lanes in large groups; and how to ride very slowly up a hill (an important skill for when you find yourself behind a slower vehicle or rider and it is not safe to pass them at that moment).
After the initial training run, Mel’s special route then gives us plenty of climbing and descending practice as we head up and/or down every big climb in the park before heading back to the start.
PLEASE NOTE OUR NEW MEETING PLACE: due to some recent safety issues at Crystal Springs, we will be meeting at the Merry Go Round Lot 3 instead – instead of turning off Crystal Springs towards the ranger station, go up the hill on the fire road towards the Merry Go Round instead. At the top, go through the first parking lot to get to Lot 2, and then down a little to reach Lot 3. We will meet at 8AM and please be prepared for the safety presentation at 8:15AM (mandatory).
The route is at:https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46232709/
All skill levels are welcome! If any ride is too much, we will work with you on making sure you have alternatives to the entire route. You will have a great bike ride. That’s a win! And remember, safety is critical. We will be following all bicycling laws and regulations as well as COVID regulations.!
