Up, Up, and Away!
14 Miles, Rolling Hills and Steep Climbs
Meet: 10:00 AM
Ride-Out: 11:30 AM
Do you dread hills? Does your heart sink when you turn a corner and see a climb? Would you like to learn to climb hills quicker and with more confidence while still feeling strong at the top?
If you answered yes to any of the above, please come to our hill climbing clinic in the beautiful and historic Presidio, where we will share with you the techniques we’ve found that help us get over hills. We are not professional cycling coaches, nor are we personal trainers. We are cyclists just like you who have had our own, not always positive, feelings about hills. We are experienced AIDS/LifeCycle participants who wish to share a myriad of hill climbing techniques that we have learned over the years, and like you, we also wish to continue to improve upon our own hill climbing abilities.
We’ll help you understand your gears and how to shift to make pedaling easier going uphill as well as how to avoid the dreaded “chain-drop”. And then there’s always the old adage, “Practice. Practice. Practice.” Our route through the Presidio will take us over eight hills, with an equal number of descents. As we loop our way through this historical park, we will never be very far from our ride start. So if eight hills sounds like too much for you right now, join us for the first two or three hills, knowing that you may stop at any time and will never be very far away from our starting point.
Novice to experienced Cyclists welcomed!
Please arrive before the meet time so that you will be ready to sign in and get started promptly at 10:00 AM. Be sure to bring plenty of snacks and water as climbing all these hills may kick your hunger into overdrive and we won’t be passing any place to buy food. Due to the terrain of this ride, for everyone’s safety, slight rain and drizzle will cancel the ride.
One last thing to note, due to the popularity of this clinic, in order to ensure that each rider gets some one-on-one time with a Training Ride Leader on our hilly route, attendance will be limited to the first 24 Cyclists who RSVP.
REQUIRED ITEMS: bike, helmet, water bottle(s), tire changing tools
