80 miles, Steep Hills with Long Climbs
Meet Time: 7:30am
Ride-Out Time: 8:00am
Rain Cancels
Two weeks left until ALC, which here in OC means that this Saturday is the annual Hills of Ecstasy ride.
This is our traditional no holds barred, WTF was that ride?. Basically, if you can do this complete route, then you are more than ready for ALC. In fact, even if you don’t do the complete route and end up taking the strategic bypasses – then you are still ready for the ride.
The reports vary based on which mapping software you use…some say 4500′ of gain, others 5500, your own GPS will say something else entirely…probably more. Whichever way you look at it., there is a metric sh*t ton of climbing.
So sales pitch over. The route does have some truly gorgeous vistas, and if the skies are clear then the view from Alta Laguna is breathtaking. (The climb getting there is to…and that’s not a metaphor.)
The complete route is 80 miles and goes up 5 climbs of various degrees of difficulty: 1. Meats (skippable) 2. Serrano 3. Santiago Canyon (from Katella) 4a. San Joaquin Hills 4b. Ridge Park/Vista Ridge (skippable) 5. Temple HIll (skippable)
