35 or 51 miles, Rolling hills with a few steep climbs
Meet Time:8:00am
Ride-Out Time: 8:30am
Rain Cancels
With this Saturday’s weather looking to be drying out after a few weeks of heavy rains we thought it would be a great time to explore some of the inland canyon areas that will be greener than most can recall in recent years.
Both the Standard (35 miles with approx 1400ft of climbing) and the Advanced (51 miles with approx 3600ft of climbing) will stay together and climb Jamboree to our first pit stop. From there both routes will split off with the Standard route heading back down Jamboree, across Portola Pkwy, and around the Great Park before heading back to the cars.
The Advanced route enjoys the rolling climbs of Santiago Canyon which should be green and the creeks and streams might even have water flowing (a very rare sight). As we exit the canyon we will head to our second pit stop before heading out towards Lake Mission Viejo and ride on some of the roads used during the 1984 Summer Olympics Road Cycling events with a photo op (if you desire) at the corner of Alicia Pkwy and Olympiad (Florence Joyner Olympiad Park) with multi-colored cycling statues. Then just before you make your turn off of Olympiad, you will be crossing the “Finish Line” used for the 1984 Cycling events.
After that, it’s mostly downhill back to the cars.
