61 and 68 miles, Steep Hills with Long Climbs
Ride-Out Time: 8:30am
Some have asked where has Newport Coast Drive been. Well it’s on this week’s routes and if you have the desire to climb both sides of it the cooler temps this Saturday will have you enjoying the Advanced Route this week.
The Standard Route (61 miles with approx 3200ft of climbing) will head over to Turtle Ridge and then around to and up the “back side” of Newport Coast Drive before heading over to Laguna Beach for a pit at Boat Canyon. Then we will head a bit of the way up the Canyon to El Toro and Alicia Parkway. The second pit will be at El Toro and Trabuco. Finally its down Irvine Blvd for a third pit at Burger Boss (or suitable alternative) and down to Corona Del Mar before heading back to the cars.
The Advanced Route (68 miles with approx 4200ft of climbing) will climb up to Starcrest in Turtle Rock at the beginning before joining back with the Standard Route for the pit stops and then through Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar before another climb up the “front side” of Newport Coast Drive before heading down San Joaquin Hills on the way to the cars.
Don’t forget about tacos and beer after the ride at Tacos and Co.
