AwesomeAhead! Season 12 Ride #8 – Dumbarton Half Century
Across the Dumbarton bridge we’ll go in our half century loop around the south bay. So while it’s flat, it’s still 50 miles. And as we found out back on the San Tomas ‘sprint’ – windy weather can dramatically change a day from super fast to a real challenge. With two rest stops and lunch break – they’ll be plenty of opportunities to fuel up.
Cross the bay in a dedicated bike lane and enjoy the unique perspective only being out in the middle of the San Francisco Bay can provide. What follows is a gorgeous perimeter “”south bay loop”” – through the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge – into Milpitas and back into Sunnyvale via the Coyote Creek Trail and back behind Great America on the San Tomas Bike Trail.
A tremendous mix of urban and one-of-a-kind outdoors riding – this ride is not one to miss. We skip the hills this week – to concentrate on endurance (drink! eat! stretch!) so this is a ride anyone should be able to enjoy from the speed demons (see ya!) and the folks that bring their cameras, catch some wildlife in the refuge and more pictures of smiling ALC riders in their gear with lattes and yummy food.
The route is at: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26905335/
All skill levels are welcome! If any ride is too much, we will work with you on making sure you have alternatives to the entire route. You will have a great bike ride. That’s a win! And remember, safety is critical. We will be following all bicycling laws and regulations!
