San Francisco Based Volunteer Opportunities

Outreach Teams

Various times of days, weekends. Our recruitment efforts include getting out into our local communities and letting people know about AIDS/LifeCycle. This is an extremely cost-effective marketing tool, which lowers our cost of fundraising. As a member of an outreach team, you will assist in setting up our AIDS/LifeCycle booth at community fairs, assist in registering future participants and collect contact info from people interested in the event. You get to speak with people about why you're involved with AIDS/LifeCycle and help them decide to support the event. It’s a great way to stay connected throughout the year!

For Outreach Volunteering contact us at 415-581-7077 or infosf@aidslifecycle.org

Speakers Bureau

Evenings, Weekends. Our Speakers Bureau volunteers are trained to speak at participants’ fundraising parties. As a volunteer you will speak eloquently and from your heart about AIDS/LifeCycle and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.  Aided by a stirring video, you will conclude with a formal “ask” of the guests. This is a tried and true method for exceeding the hosts’ fundraising goals. You will attend one evening training and a follow-up workshop session for honing your speech and the formal “ask”. We will give you the training and tools you’ll need to be an effective speaker. If you are comfortable talking in front of groups and have a passion for AIDS/LifeCycle and the fight against HIV/AIDS, come join our Speakers Bureau!
To volunteer contact us at 415-581-7077 or email infosf@aidslifecycle.org.

Special Events

Weeknights, Weekends.
As a Special Event volunteer you will be helping to ensure the success of events that are crucial to AIDS/LifeCycle recruitment and retention. It’s a fun way to interact with other participants and staff! The following is a list of our Special Events:

Training Ride Kickoff – Saturday, October 25th
Kickoff Party – Sunday, January 11th
Cyclist Expo & Roadie Training – Saturday, March 28th
Day on the Ride – Saturday, April 25th

To volunteer for a Special Event contact Emily Mariko-Sanders at 415-487-8081 or email her at emariko-sanders@sfaf.org.

Training Ride Leaders (TRLs)

Weekends, some Weekdays.  Training Ride Leaders lead our participants on organized training rides throughout the year as well as help us map out and design new routes. TRLs play an integral part in helping Cyclists prepare and increase their endurance so they can achieve maximum results during our event. Volunteers for these very important positions will need to have ridden in at least one AIDS/LifeCycle or California AIDS Ride.

We are looking for Training Ride Leaders at all levels. We offer rides for all levels and we need TRLs who ride at all levels. Speed is not important. Patience, compassion, and selflessness are. While we have fast training rides, we have more folks who need to be training at a slower pace and who, in all likelihood, won't ever be super fast. We consider these the "Steady Pace" riders, and they need people to guide and mentor them through the training rides.

Additionally, all Training Ride Leaders will be responsible for following all AIDS/LifeCycle protocol, including debriefing all cyclists after each ride and submitting proper paperwork on time.  We also ask that you are able to commit to leading at least 2 training rides per month.   If you excel at being friendly, observant, and thorough, this is the group for you!

To be certified as a Training Ride Leader, you must attend a 2 day training over 1 weekend. It is required to attend both days of the training. If you’re interested in finding out more, please contact Julie Brown at 415-581-7096 or email her at jbrown@aidslifecycle.org.

Office/Database Volunteers

Weekdays. There are plenty of opportunities to help out in the office with other AIDS/LifeCycle staff and volunteers. People interested in the event need to be mailed Information Packets, Cyclists and Roadies need to have their Registration Packets mailed right after they sign up. Help us keep up with the huge response to AIDS/LifeCycle! If you're quick and accurate on computer keyboards, you can help us keep track of information requests and important data about Cyclists, Roadies, Volunteers and others interested in AIDS/LifeCycle. We are looking for folks with at least one day (3-5 hours) per week availability for database upkeep.

Special Events/Planning Team

Weeknights, some weekdays. This group acts as the Steering Committee for all of our special events prior to the ride in June, as well as fill in wherever needed on other committees. They meet as needed to oversee the production and acquisition of free stuff for our Kick-off Party, Cyclist/Roadie Expo and our big Day on the Ride. This is a great place to use or acquire your organizational and creative skills. This is also the group to join if you have connections with restaurants, print stores, florists, musicians, food vendors, balloon companies, sound systems, DJs and more. Work within a fun team to see your ideas come to life!

Training Ride Volunteers

Weekends, some Weekdays. Training Ride Volunteers lead our participants on organized training rides throughout the year as well as help us map out and design new routes. The Leaders play an integral part in helping Cyclists prepare and increase their endurance so they can achieve maximum results during our event. Volunteers for these very important positions will need to have ridden in at least one multi-day cycling event in the past and attend a full day orientation/certification process.

We are looking for Training Ride Leaders at all levels. We offer rides for all levels and we need Training Ride Leaders who ride at all levels. Speed is not important. Wednesday Night Crew

Wednesday nights 6:30-8:30. This weekly group gives you a chance to come together once a week to get things done for the office, as well as socialize with each other. The Crew will be able to phone bank together, which involves calling people who have expressed interest in AIDS/LifeCycle and speaking with them about the event. You get to answer questions and share your experiences. The Crew will also help with various projects as needed, and we will provide the food! Once a month, the Wednesday Night Crew will open its doors to ALL committees to come, help out a little, and discuss what is new in their group. This monthly jam session will enable everyone to share what their committee is up to and get help if needed, and learn about others.
