Climbing. Love it, loathe it? No matter, you’re going to have to do it, because whatever you may have heard to the contrary, the AIDS/LifeCycle route from San Francisco to Los Angeles is NOT downhill the whole way. So training to climb is HIGHLY recommended, if not mandatory! Come join the East Side Posse weekly climbing series for a 13-mile ride including a climb up “legendary” Garbage Truck Hill (which took one of your ride leaders from being an absolutely abysmal climber to being an absolutely mediocre one) and a climb up to the Griffith Park Observatory (where the view almost makes the climb worth it). This ride starts in Los Feliz, then has a flat and rolling 5.6 mile warm-up before beginning the 3.4 mile climb up Garbage Truck Hill (made up of the Travel Town Climb-5.2% average grade, and Mount Hollywood Climb-4.3% average grade) and the 0.3 mile climb up to the Observatory (5.4% average grade). The ride then drops into the rapid descent by the Greek Theater and returns to the start where caffeine, bagels, muffins, doughnuts and other calorie dense treats await. Garbage Truck Hill is an excellent training hill with varying gradients, switchbacks and stunning views. The hill is fairly long, but don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, we won’t leave you behind to become a coyote’s treat! (Keep in mind that the average speed includes climbing, so there will be times riding speeds will be substantially greater than the average.)

NOTE: WE DO NOT HAVE PERMISSSION to park in the Albertson’s parking lot (unmetered and metered street parking is available).
